Cochise, famous Chiricahua Apache Chief, the only enemy combatant to have never been beaten by US Military!
Cochise, after exacting revenge for the Bascom Affair, which resulted in the loss of much of his family at the hands of then Lt. George Bascom (who now rests in an unmarked grave), entered into a peace treaty with the US government bringing temporary but significant peace to the region.
This peace treaty created the Chiricahua Indian Reservation. Unfortunately the peace ended with Cochise's death.
As one can see from this map, Dragoon sits on the edge of this reservation as everything between and including the Dragoon Mountains and the Chiricahua Mountains was included which is nearly the entirety of Cochise County.
The Chiricahua Indian Reservation existed from 1872 to 1876. It was established by executive order in 1872 and dissolved in 1876 when the Apaches living there were moved to the San Carlos Reservation. "Enemy combatants" were shipped back east in inhuman train car conditions and typically died in similar inhuman concentration camp like conditions.
